About Me

At school, my interests lay in Art textiles and I loved combining new and exciting textures and layers to create wearable pieces. When I started to consider careers, I decided I wanted to use my textural knowledge to enhance clothing, rather than going down the more traditional routes of printing & weaving courses. Costume with an interest for breaking down and dyeing was a great choice, however, once I began learning construction techniques, pattern cutting, tailoring and finishing details, I was sold on the art of construction rather than textiles. My costume making skills developed at Northbrook Metropoliton College in Worthing and after completing a Foundation Degree in Design and Construction, I studied my final degree year at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London and earnt a high 2:1 BA (Hons) in Costume Construction.

Whilst at University, I developed my interests of womenswear and period clothing, constructing costumes such as an 18th Century Redingote and a 1900 Tailored Walking suit. I also explored drawn thread work, an old technique where the threads of the fabric are removed and the remaining fabric is then stitched into to create lace-like details.

Since University, I have worked on a range of costumes, from traditional period clothing to sci-fi fantasy garments, expanding my knowledge of fabrics, construction and finishing techniques. I am a fast learner and I enjoy learning more about my craft from the amazing people I work with.

I currently work as a Costume Maker on films and high-end TV shows, as well as working freelance in London for independent workrooms. Check out My Work to see my credits.

In my spare time, I enjoy walks in the countryside, fixing my old car and going to the cinema; dreaming about what I might make next.
